October 7 training
What a positive energy in the room! 20 volunteer guest lecturers from almost as many different countries came to PEP (Participation Emancipation Professionals) on October 7 2015 to receive a 3 hour didactic training in English on how to prepare for their guest lectures.
Iris Borup, Educational consultant from HCO combined theory and practice on how to design a lesson plan, how to break lessons into smaller chunks including hands on activities in pairs or small groups. She mentioned what educational levels lecturers would visit after explaining how the Dutch educational system is organized. Volunteers could brainstorm about topic ideas and teaching aids. They learnt from 2014 guest lecturer Peter Leggett what it feels like to be in the classroom, as well as some good practices and practical things to keep in mind when contacting school teachers for the lectures that you will be assigned.
TWIYC coordinator Lucie Cunningham shared stories about last year’s guest lectures and clarified the process of how guest lecturers get matched to specific lessons. She sent out some additional tips by email and advised everyone to read helpful posts and presentation examples left by previous guest lecturers at the The World in Your Classroom LinkedIn group.
It is time for guest lecturers from this group to finalize their presentation topics by the end of next week and mention any schedule changes.
Thank you Peter Legett for your pictures!
The training team can’t wait to meet our second group!
